(Cleveland)- No injuries reported Tuesday night after a couple of kayakers were rescued from the Chattahoochee River in White County and fire units responded to a camper fire. 

Public Safety Director David Murphy in a news release said they received a call at approximately 8;30 PM Tuesday night from two kayakers requesting assistance from the river.  Murphy said these kayakers had got caught in the darkness of night and could not maneuver to their destination.

They were located in the area of 11046 Duncan Bridge Road by using coordinates from one of the individual’s cell phone. Fire Station 2, Swift water 4, and EMS personnel were dispatched to assist in retrieving the two individuals from the river bank.

No injuries were reported.

Prior to that call White County and Helen fire units were dispatched to a camper fire on Poplar Stump Road in Chattahoochee Campground.  Murphy said when fire units arrived on scene they found a 20’ camper with heavy smoke from the engine compartment. 

Fire was quickly extinguished and units were back in service.
