Douglas Wayne O’Neal, age 77 of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2022, following a period of declining health. Doug was born September 5, 1944, in Moultrie, Georgia to the late Odella Williams and Charles J.O’Neal. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was employed for many years in the metro Atlanta Area as a real estate appraiser. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Doug’s faith was very important to him, and he was an active member of Dahlonega Baptist Church, serving throughout the years as a Deacon and a member of the Safety team. He had a generous heart and strong compassion for those in need and served in two areas near and dear to his heart: the Benevolence ministry and There’s Hope for the Hungry food ministry.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Gloria Carver O’Neal, son Douglas (Michelle) O’Neal, and stepsons Jeff (Sally) Gunter and David (Kace) Gunter, along with 10 grandchildren who lovingly called him Papa: Ashelyn, Kedron, and Reese O’Neal; Emily, Jake, and Georgia Gunter; and Judah, Ezra, Jolene, and Everly Gunter.
