(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Commissioners have approved using SPLOST funds to pave eight county roads. During a called meeting this morning the commissioners approved awarding contracts for the work to Colwell Construction of Blairsville.
County Manager Mike Melton said they will be using funds from the 2008 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for this project.
The roads approved for paving include Gene Nix Road, from Asbury Mill Road to the bridge; Virgil Hunt Road, from Tesnatee Gap Valley Road to Town Creek Road; May White Road, from Webster Lake Road to Old Cherokee Road; Lynch Mountain Road, from State Route 255 to the bridge; Rabun Road, from State Route 17 to Bean Creek Road; Gus Abernathy Road and Mt. Pleasant Church Road, from US 129 to Paradise Valley Road.
Melton said, they probably will get only three of the roads paved this paving season, with the remaining to be done next Spring.
The paving will be will be more durable and longer lasting asphalt paving not triple surface work.
At the end of their regular meeting on August 5th District 4 Commissioner Craig Bryant said, “ we’ve talked and talked about it until we are blue in the face,” and recommended they look at eight different roads, selected from each of the commissioners districts around the county.
