Historic Oak Springs School Building

(Cleveland)- Cleveland City Council has voted to move forward with engineering work for the renovation of the old Oak Springs School building on Campbell Street.   Contractor Ron Cantrell presented a report to the council Monday night that included some suggested design ideas.

The building is being remodeled in an effort to provide housing for the city’s police department and a council meeting room.

The council, in addition to approving the engineering work, also instructed Cantrell to get competitive bids on handling the asbestos material in the building.

Cantrell told the council that he could have things ready to talk final cost for the project within a couple of months.  The council wants to use the historic building first as a police headquarters and later the building is expected to be converted into a community center.

City officials are also looking for any historical pictures of the building as well as items like the desk that were used in the original building.
