(Clarkesville)- The seeds of design, planted last November by North Georgia Technical College Horticulture students, are sprouting to fruition in downtown Toccoa. At the corner of Broad and Currahee Street, the new Greenway Park is nearing completion.
North Georgia Technical College Horticulture Instructor Craig Thurmond said, “The City of Toccoa Commissioners asked my students to take on a project transforming a vacant lot into a functioning greenspace for the citizens, this was a fast-paced and challenging project, and it is exciting to see it taking shape.” Last November the classes met with the commissioners to collect ideas and vision, from there several designs were developed.
The design included not only landscaping, but hardscaping as well with a meandering sidewalk, new signage, and lighting. “We are really in full construction mode on this one.”
NGT students involved on this project include; Susie Berry of Cleveland.
