(Cleveland)- As we head into the 4th of July holiday weekend the Cleveland Police Department has provided some information about the use of fireworks.

Major Aaron Weiland, with Cleveland Police, says according to state law anyone 18 years old or older, with some exceptions, may possess fireworks.

According to Weiland, the Georgia code doesn’t indicate where you can use fireworks, but it does list some limitations where it is “unlawful”, such as within the right of way of a public road, street, highway. Within any park, historic site, recreational area, or other property which is owned by or operated by, for, or under the custody and control of a governing authority. Within 100 yards of a hospital, nursing home, or other health care facility

As for what time is it ok to set off fireworks Weiland says July 3, and July 4… of each year after 10:00 A.M. and up to and including 11:59 P.M. each day.

Major Weiland along with Police Chief Jeff Shoemaker urges everyone to please be safe in all situations and keep in mind that it is unlawful to use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or any drug or any combination of alcohol and any drug to the extent that it is less safe.
