Rabies sign3-15-16

(Cleveland)- Another positive rabies case has been reported in White County.  Sean Sullivan  White County Environmental Health Manager, advised in an email Tuesday that a person recently had contract with a rabid fox in the Highway 129 South and Truelove Road area. 

According to Sullivan, an individual was leaving a local business on 129 south when the fox attacked as that  individual approached their vehicle.  

Sullivan said, the fox attacked the male victim’s shoe and pants leg.  He said, as far as we know,  no skin was broken, but the victim did  go to the ER to be check out.    

Sullivan said, the fox was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab – Virology Section in Decatur.  White County Environmental Health was advised  Tuesday afternoon that the fox tested positive for rabies.

This is the second confirmed case of rabies in White  County this year.   

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid fox was located. If you live in this area  and have concerns of rabid animal exposure please contact White County Environmental Health at  706-348-7698 during normal business hours.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies.
