She was born in Campton, Georgia; Walton County to Mary Lizzie Sorrells Braswell and Willie Hardman Braswell. At the age of two, she moved to Monroe, very ill with scarlet fever and diphtheria, where she lived in the same house for 45 years until her marriage.
She graduated from Monroe High School with honor and the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She was employed with the Georgia Agriculture Extension as Home Demonstration Agent in Towns and Union Counties after an internship in Fannin County. After furthering her education, she taught Home Economics in Loganville and Monroe. A school yearbook was dedicated to her at both schools.
She was a former member of usual education associations, Delta Kappa Gamma an Honorary Teacher Society, Pilot Club, Monroe and Avon Garden clubs serving in various capacities. Presently, I am a member of Retired Educators, White County, Loganville and Monroe Historical Societies. The White County Rotary Club honored her by making her an honorary member and later with two awards, Woodmen of the World honored her with a Community Leadership Award.
She married the love of her life, Eugene Emerson Adams, whom she met in a nursing home where both were regularly visiting a loved one. She moved to her husband’s DeKalb County home in Avondale Estates, adapting readily to a new environment and lifestyle. After her husband retired from two full careers; 48 years in banking and 20 years DeKalb County Tax Commissioner, they moved to Cleveland, Ga to their beloved weekend home. They traveled extensively both nationally and abroad. Most of all, their greatest joy was the two of them being together.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ray Braswell, and husband.
In lieu of flowers, suggested donations will be appreciated by the White County Historical Society, P.O. Box 1139, Cleveland, GA 30528; Loganville Historical Society, P.O. Box 3154, Loganville, GA 30052; Monroe Museum, P.O. Box 506 Monroe, Ga 30655.
