(Cleveland)- Good news for area fishermen, the White County Board of Commissioners have voted to open the lake at Yonah Preserve, north of Cleveland,  for fishing.  The 45-plus acre lake  is located in the middle of the one thousand acre recreation area owned by the county.

Commission Chairman Travis Turner said this is another step in their efforts to offer more and more recreation opportunities for the public to utilize the area like fishing, “ so folks will be able to go out on Thursday’s through Sunday’s fish from the banks, as long as you have your fishing license and you are able to meet the DNR requirements, “ said Turner.

Turner emphasized that no boats are allowed, at this time, and no swimming will be permitted.

According to Turner the lake should provide a good challenge for anglers with 25 years of developing fish population, “ over the years there’s a variety of fish, and I’m not an expert, but there’s a wide variety of bass too,  that we believe to the upper part where the fresh water creek enters into the reservoir  that we’ve got some trout up on that side toward the creek side, “ commented Turner.

Fishing at Yonah Preserve lake will be open to the public from 8 AM until 7 PM Thursday through Sunday until Labor Day.  You can access the lake just as those using the Hiking and Biking trails  at 1054  Albert Reid Road north of Cleveland.
