Woodmen Hold Community Recognition

Shirley McDonald- Ms. Woodmen

(Cleveland)- A white county lady who has been involved in the community for many years, as an official county historian plus many other areas, has been recognized by the Woodmen of the World, Cleveland chapter as “ Ms. Woodman”. The award to Shirley McDonald is in recognition for her service to the origination as secretary and other work. McDonald was an fundamental part of the White County Health Department for many years, worked with the White County Historical Society and other groups was recognized along with other community volunteers at the woodmen’s annual award luncheon Saturday.

Faye Franks, President of Woodmen of The World fraternal organization also presented McDonald with a Secretary Emeritus award. She said we’ve searched and searched and we don’t know how many years she served as secretary.

Other awards presented during the ceremony include:

Caring for Others– Chuck Johnstone , for his work with the community Thanksgiving Dinner boxes program.

Community Partner– Ricky Freeman- for his work helping with the maintenance of the Woodman Hall building.

Community Leadership– Annie Sutton, Cleveland Councilwoman and the things she does for the community as well a being a mentor to the youth in our community.

Youth- Doug Bennett, who has worked for many years in the community and has set up a after school program at trailer park in the county.

Conservation– Eric Nix, who has continued conservation practices on the family farm in White County. Twenty years ago his Grandfather Edsel Nix received the same awards.

Fraternal Spirit– Jerilyn Gerrell, for her work with the organization and their programs.
