Carpet Cleaning Company called to clean up water damage

(Cleveland)- A Sunday morning fire at a Cleveland apartment complex resulted in five units being damaged. The fire call was dispatched at 10:56 AM to 57 White Hall Commons Lane. Cleveland Police evacuated the building prior to the arrival of the fire department. The fire, which was brought under control at 11:04 AM, was located in the kitchen of one of the units.

Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Prutt said, “ the occupant of one of the units was cooking and an apparent grease fire set off the sprinkler system.” Pruitt advised, water from the sprinkler system actually caused more damage than the fire. He said,” the worst thing about it the sprinkler system put the fire out, but till we got there and located the sprinkler shutoff the water was free flowing.”

The sprinkler system shut off was not properly marked, according to Chief Pruitt, and that caused a delay in getting the cut off and he said he will be talking with management about that.

One minor injury was reported, Pruitt said, “ the gentleman where the fire originated suffered minor injury as he attempted to extinguish the blaze.”
