County Attorney, Mary Jane Henneke presenting the proposed legislation to the commission board

(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Commissioners has taken the first step that will set up a Board of Elections and Registration in the county.  Currently, White County Probate Judge Garrison Baker serves as County Election Superintendent and Lisa Manning serves as Chief Voter Registrar.  Under the proposal that the commissioners are working on both those positions along with the county board of registrar would be replaced by the new board who would handle all election matters in the county.

The commissioners Monday night heard a report from County Attorney Mary Jane Henneke who outlined the wording of the legislation that will be presented to the Georgia General Assembly for their approval before all the changes take place.  The proposed effective date for this process is January 1, 2021.

After some discussion about the makeup of the board and their terms, the commissioners approved the document to be sent forth for legislative approval.

The Commissioners also last evening received a $10,000 donation from Georgia Power.  Area Manager  Brent Edwards presented the check and Commission Chairman Travis Turner said the funds will be used to help construct a new playground at Yonah Preserve ball field complex next year.
