(Cleveland)- The White County Food Pantry is known for helping out people who are in need, well now the food pantry is in need itself,  for  funds to purchase a newer cargo van to use to transport the food that is distributed at the pantry.   

Susan Dyer, with the Food Pantry says their current van is 19 years old, “ we’ve had to make several repairs on it  such as replacing the battery, replacing the brakes, the windshield  and it’s to the point now that  our volunteers are afraid to drive it,” said Dyer.   

Without a van the pantry would be forced to close as that is the only means they have to get the food to the pantry from the Food Bank, community food drives and local grocers.  

Dyer said the need is urgent  “ we’re not asking for a brand new van, we’re just asking  for enough money to get a newer van that we can depend on,”  she said.

Last fiscal year the White County Food Pantry served 17,822 families and distributed 245,519 pounds of food to the residents of White County.  According to Dyer many families have come to depend on the monthly box of food.   

Donations may be  mailed to the White County Food Pantry  P. O. Box 356 Cleveland, Ga. 30528, or dropped off Monday –Friday from 10:00 am till 12 noon at the pantry located at 1346 Highway 254 next to Pioneer RESA.  Any amount will be appreciated. The White County Food Pantry is non-profit and is staffed totally by volunteers.
