(Cleveland)- The White County Water Authority has received the approval of an extension of a Georgia Environmental Finance Authority loan that will help the county increase water line installation. The GEFA board meeting this week approved an additional $557, 418.
Water Authority Chairman Edwin Nix said, Wednesday that the funds were in addition to the $1-point – 7 million dollar 20 year zero percent loan that had previously been approved. Nix said two major projects Adair Mill Road and Logans Ridge Road used up most of the earlier funds and the money will be used complete the projects. He also said, “ I’m trying to come under budget with this and they have kina assured me if I do come under budget, they are going to allow me to have this money, so any money I save will give me a chance to expand in other areas.”
With the completion of the current projects Nix said, this will add 25 miles of water line in the county. According to Nix the timing of the additional funds was great, “ we’re proud that we have secured this, it’s zero percent interest 20 years to pay it back. The loan was bases on enough customers to take care of the debt service, “ said Nix.
The new water lines will not only benefit customers who hook on to the service, but those who don’t, with better fire protection and possibly lower insurance rates.
