(Cleveland)- White County Health officials have advised several dogs had contact recently with a rabid raccoon in the Mt. Scenic Drive, off Highway 129 near the White/Hall County line.
White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said the raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab – Virology Section in Decatur.
He said, White County Environmental Health was advised Tuesday, that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.
This is the fourth confirmed case of rabies in White County this year.
According to Murphy, positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located.
Update- White County Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan said Thursday, there was a total of 6 dogs involved, 3 belonging to one family and were not current of vaccination and were put down Wednesday.
Sullivan advised three other dogs, owned by a diffident family were current on their shots and are under a 45 day observation.
