(Cleveland)- …The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Flood Warning for the Chattahoochee River affecting Hall and White Counties. The Weather Service said recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.
All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest forecasts…and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect life and property.
In White County and the city of Cleveland numerous roads have been flooded and are dangerous to travel. White County Fire Chief Norman Alexander and Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt is cautioning motorist to slow down and watch out for water flooding many roadways.
Chief Alexander advises that Roy Powers Road at the bridge is closed, Airport Road on the Post Road end closed and Carolina Springs Road is flooded.
The Flood Warning is in effect until further notice due to run off from the recent rain.
WRWH Weather Reporter Bill Kinsland reports from 4 PM Thursday until 10 AM today he has recorded a total of 4.55 inches of rain at the Sautee Weather Station. During that same time frame at WRWH we recorded 4.91 inches of rain. More rain is expected throughout the day.
Early Friday morning Bill advised that Sautee and Helen weather stations had set a new all time record for year to date rainfall with 102.01 inches at Sautee and 104.29 inches in Helen. Cleveland is very close to setting a record as well for year to date rainfall.
