(Cleveland)- Cleveland Police say they are investigating a possible school violence threat made by a juvenile. Lt. Donna Sims said in an email, on February 15, 2018, the Cleveland Police Department received information about a Juvenile male who had made threats to shoot up the school on Wednesday, February 21st when classes resumed.
According to Lt. Sims, officers with the Cleveland Police Department have interviewed subjects who reportedly overheard the threat and got corroborating information which lead to the Juvenile being detained at the Regional Youth Detention Center.
School Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson said in an email, at the end of the school day (Thursday), it was reported to our administration that a student at the Ninth Grade Academy had made the statement, “I am gonna bring a gun and shoot up the school when we get back in school next week.”
Wilson said the school system immediately took action through our School Resource Officer and the Cleveland Police Department which promptly began an investigation of the incident. As a result of the police investigation, charges have been filed against a juvenile who has been detained.
According to Wilson White County School System and local law enforcement will continue working diligently to make sure that all of our students, staff and community are safe.
Both Cleveland Police and White County Sheriff’s office provided extra officers at each of the schools in the county on Thursday, as Superintendent Wilson said, “wanted to help our students feel that we are watching out for them after the event in Florida.”
Sims advises the investigation is ongoing but there are no other suspects being sought. If any other students heard anything, that was said about a threat, they are asked to call the Cleveland Police Department (706) 348-7078.
