DAHLONEGA – For the first time in program history, the University of North Georgia women’s soccer program will be featured nationally as part of the NCAA Division II Showcase. On October 27 in Dahlonega, UNG will battle nationally-ranked Columbus State with the game being broadcast across the nation through Twitter and Facebook Live.

With the announcement, North Georgia becomes the first school in Division II to host nationally-televised matchups in five sports. UNG hosted ESPN3 back in 2015 on Make-A-Wish Day with the softball team taking on Georgia College and the baseball team playing host to Anderson. On January 9, 2019, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will host Columbus State with ESPN3 broadcasting the games live from the UNG Convocation Center.

Columbus State is 10-0-1 on the year and a perfect 7-0-0 in league play. They have won at least a share of five straight Peach Belt Conference regular season championships.

North Georgia is 9-2-1 in 2018 and 5-1-1 in PBC action. The Nighthawks won a share of their first league title last season.

The game’s kickoff time will be moved back to 6:05 p.m. and will be live streamed through the NCAA Division II’s Twitter (@NCAADII) and Facebook Live pages. The game will also be posted on the Peach Belt Conference, Columbus State and North Georgia Facebook pages. Niles Media Group will produce the broadcast, giving viewers four different angles throughout the UNG Soccer Complex.

This fall, Division II launched a new regular season media agreement that consists of 11 football games, 18 basketball games and 6-10 other sports being distributed in a hybrid model that could consist of local TV and online distribution.
