DAHLONEGA – Amber Skidgel posted a season-high 25 points, but the University of North Georgia women’s basketball team lost a shootout with Carson-Newman by a score of 94-90 Friday night in the second game of the UNG Nighthawk Classic.

North Georgia pushed the game early and extended a lead to 12 points with 7:46 left in the first half. The Eagles, however, went on a 22-12 run over the remaining portion of the half to cut the Nighthawk lead to two going into the break.

From there, C-N and UNG went back-and-forth before the Eagles took the lead at 60-58 with 3:46 left in the third and never relinquished it, escaping with the four-point win.

NOTES
– Skidgel finished 8-22 from the field, including five made three-pointers. Mackenzie Darrah added 16 on a 50 percent shooting night.

– Vanessa Agrusa had her first collegiate double-double, posting 10 points with a career-high 10 rebounds in the game.

– The Nighthawks shot nearly 51 percent from the field while Carson-Newman shot just over 44 percent, but the Eagles hit a third of their three-point attempts (11-33) and all but one of their free throws (19-20).

– Georgia College earned their first win of the season in a 70-40 win over Barton in the classic’s first contest.

The Nighthawks will look to rebound quickly as they take on Barton in the final game of the UNG Nighthawk Classic tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. Play between Georgia College and Carson-Newman will kick off the day at 2 p.m.
