DAHLONEGA – The University of North Georgia men’s tennis team claimed a big Peach Belt Conference win Thursday as they took out No. 13 Georgia College at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek. UNG is now 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play.

The Nighthawks continued their dominance in doubles, winning at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots in convincing fashion. Niklas Zielen and Jess Jones won, 6-1, to remain unbeaten as a pair, and Ryan Gaskin and Hugues Renaud followed suit with a 6-0 win, their fourth 6-0 win of the season.

Singles proved to be more of a battle as the Bobcats came out fighting, and initially made things difficult for UNG. Jones lost at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 2-6, and the Nighthawks then went down 2-1 when Tim Kiehl dropped a line at No. 5 singles.

UNG came roaring back behind Renaud and Gaskin, who won at almost the exact same time: Renauld 6-2 in the third set, and Gaskin 7-5, 6-4. Jared Bones then clinched the match with a huge win at the No. 6 spot, coming through 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 and earning his first clinch of the year.

The Nighthawks will now travel to Orlando for a four-game road trip, starting with Northwood on Sunday.
