Unemployment4-3=23-15(Atlanta)- The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that White County’s unemployment rate in May increased to 5.3 percent. That is up two tenths of a percent from the 5.1 percent revised April rate.

The labor department said in May the labor force in the county was 14,014, of those 13,272 had jobs while 742 did not.

The unemployment rate in the Georgia Mountains region in May was 5.3 percent, up four-tenths of a percentage point from 4.9 percent in April.

Most of the increase came in repair, maintenance and personal services, along with administrative and support services.
