(Atlanta)- Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday  that the Georgia Mountains region’s labor force jumped in June to a record high as summer job seekers hit the market. With the labor force growing faster than could be absorbed through hiring, the unemployment rate also ticked up for the month.

Labor Commissioner Mark Butler explained that despite an increase in the unemployment rate, he remains confident about the overall job market.

In White County the labor department said White County’s preliminary unemployment rate in June was 3.2 percent up from the revised May rate of 2.6 percent. A year ago the rate was 4.1 percent.

The labor department figures show the county’s labor force in June was 16,716 of those 16,176 were employed while 540 were unemployed.
