(Cleveland)- The first day of qualifying for the special election for mayor in the City of Cleveland has produced two candidates for the position. The first to quality was Josh Turner.

After qualifying Turner in a press statement said “I’ve been honored by the strong showing of support for my campaign. The citizens of Cleveland have been so kind to me publicly showing their support. I’m also pleased to have the endorsement of former Governor Nathan Deal and Representative Terry Rogers.” Turner was joined at City Hall by his wife, Lacy, children Weston and Hallie James, and parents Dwayne and Connie Turner to qualify.

 

Cleveland Mayor pro-tem Annie Sutton

Also, qualifying was Cleveland Councilwoman Annie Sutton, who serves Ward 2 on the board. She paid her qualifying fee and submitted her resignation as Council Member so that she may run for mayor.

In her letter of resignation, Sutton said, “ I thank the Citizens of Cleveland for their support during my tenure as a council member. I would like to thank the members of the City Council and employees of this great city for their support and a job well done. I/ we, as a City Council could not have accomplished our goals without each other. My prayer is for continued growth and prosperity within the city, its citizens and our city government.

Qualifying for the special election will continue through Wednesday at Cleveland City Hall. Prospective candidates may make their intentions know between 8:30 AM and 1 PM and 2 to 4:30 PM each day. The election will be held on March 24th at Cleveland First Baptist Church.
