HILTON HEAD, S.C. | Behind a trio of 78’s, the University of North Georgia women’s golf team posted a final round 313 and moved up one spot to finish sixth at the Hilton Head Lakes Invitational hosted by Pfeiffer.
Taylor Allen,
Abbey Gill and
Mariana Pelaez each carded six-over 78’s while
Carrilee Hiers rounded out the team score with a 79.
The Nighthawks finished just a stroke behind No. 35 Queens for fifth and 25 shots behind winner UNC Pembroke.
Allen’s two-day total of 76-78-154 was good for a tie for seventh place in the 95-golfer field. Gill’s (79-78-157 earned her a top-15 finish as well.
The team score of 313 is the second best round of the season behind a 309 at the Montevallo Full Moon BBQ Invitational back in September.
King’s Elizabeth Swallow took the medalist trophy back to Tennessee after winning a playoff with UNC Pembroke junior Laura Bird after both finished the event at one-over-par 145. Bird was the first-round leader following her two-under-par 70 Monday.
Wingate (620), Mount Olive (624), No. 35 Queens (630), North Georgia (631), Converse (635), Erskine (635), Catawba (638) and No. 46 California, Pa. (651) finished in the four through 10 spots on the team charts.
North Georgia will return to action on Apr. 6-7 at the West Georgia Spring Invitational.
