Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, announces the death of Tom Carter, age 87, of Cornelia, who passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018.

Mr. Carter was born on May 2, 1931 in Baxley, Georgia to the late Thomas Linton Carter and Carrie Bevil Carter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Janie Brown; brother-in-law, Reece Chitty. Mr. Carter was a member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia, where he was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Lanier Bridge Club, the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post 7720. Mr. Carter was a United States Air Force Korean Conflict Veteran. He was a retired Attorney, having practiced law for 45 years. Tom was a Life Master Bridge Player. He loved playing golf, and he loved people.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Pat Blair Carter, of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Janeann and Chuck Allison, of Cleveland; son, Blair Carter, of Cornelia; sister, Barbara Ann Chitty, of St. Simons Island; brother-in-law, Bob Dart Brown, of St. Simons Island; grandchildren, Anthony Allison, Dakotah Allison, Kaitlin and Shaphan Wade, Kyle Stringer, Ally Allison, Matelyn Allison; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel with Dr. Eric Spivey and Rev. David Turner officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the funeral home prior to the service.
