CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 16, 2019) – Craig Barton of the No. 18 Truett McConnell University baseball team was named the NAIA pitcher of the week following his record-breaking performance on the road, announced the league Tuesday. This marks the second time any TMU athlete has ever received this national recognition. In fact, Karley Hobbs (softball) is the other student-athlete to receive this award this week.

Barton, the most recent Appalachian Athletic Conference pitcher of the week, led the Bears to a conference win after throwing a complete game shutout (10-0). The sophomore struck out 15 batters, which set a new school record, and allowed just two hits. Barton is 5-1 and has 64 strikeouts on the year. In addition, Barton holds his opponents to a batting average of .261.

TMU (25-13, 16-4 AAC) is tied for first in the AAC alongside No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan.
