(CLEVELAND) – For the seventh time this season, the Truett McConnell University men’s soccer team faced overtime on Tuesday evening against Point University. After 110 minutes of play, the Bears (4-6-4, 3-2-3 AAC) picked up their fourth draw of the season (2-2) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown at the TMU Soccer Complex.

Point was capable of scoring within the first three minutes of the game (0-1) but junior Javier Rodriguez netted the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 26th minute (1-1). After the half, the Skyhawks scored once more (1-2) but once again, Rodriguez rose to the occasion. With under a minute to go in regulation, Rodriguez finished a free kick in the top right corner of the net to force the game into overtime.

Neither team was able of scoring in both overtime periods but the closest the Bears got to winning with a golden goal was when Rodriguez went 1v1 with Point’s goalkeeper. TMU, in fact, outshot the Skyhawks throughout the 20 minutes of overtime 8-1.

Rodriguez led the way with 10 shots, five on goal, while Alvaro Lores shot three, two on goal. Dean Kahn and Trevor Fick took two shots apiece. Senior Evan Gaffney recorded a total of five saves on the day.

Up next, the Bears are on the road for Union College on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
