(Cleveland)- – Interim Athletic Director Jenni Shepard announced today that Truett McConnell University will add Air Rifle as a life sport beginning Fall 2018.

The team will consist of a squad of 15 individuals and will include male and female shooters. Air Rifle scholarships are available and interested 2018 graduates or current Truett McConnell students should contact Head Coach Joshua Wofford at jwofford@truett.edu or Assistant Coach Caleb Huiet at chuiet@truett.edu.

The Air Rifle team will practice onsite in the Bear Cave where they will have a modular range that can be assembled and  disassembled quickly. They will participate in 8-10 events between the months of October and March. There are approximately 1,300 high school students currently competing on shooting teams in the Georgia High School System which we will use as a recruiting base.

Coach Shepard said the following, “We are very excited to have Josh and Caleb on board to lead this new team. They are both qualified shooting instructors who will be able to disciple these young men and women on a daily basis while also teaching them all they can about shooting. We are continuing to grow as an athletic department and can’t wait to have these shooters as a part of our team beginning in August. Interested individuals should contact one of the air rifle coaches or myself at jshepard@truett.edu for more information about our shooting program. I would like to thank our administration for supporting this endeavor and I am excited to see how our new air rifle team will grow and mature over the next few years.”
