(Cleveland)- A Cleveland landmark since 1955 is getting a complete facelift.   The old Dairy Queen building on North Main Street is being stripped down to the four walls and a rebuilding process will take place.    Gary and Lydia Hambrick, owners of the current D Q Grill and Chill  on the Helen Highway own the building and since they moved into their new facility five years ago the building has been sitting vacant.

Gary Hambrick said, “ it’s been deteriorating with no one in there and it was time to do something.”  He said they will be doing a complete overhaul  with new roof and exterior.  Hambrick said, “it’s not going to look anything like it did before they started.  The new building will feature stucco and rock, similar to the grill and chill building.

According to Hambrick, this  will be the third redesign  of the building since 1955,  when Guy Palmer  built it.

“There’s a lot of history and sentimental value  for a many  who have visited and bought ice cream there, but it  has served it’s purpose,”  he said.   People have been asking  Hambrick , what will it be, he says it’s not going to be anything at the moment,  he’s just waiting for someone to inquire about renting it.

It will take a few months to finish the project before anyone will be able to utilize the building and the prominent  location.
