(Cleveland)- State and local officials are watching weather developments that could result in a severe weather threat this Thursday. White County Public Safety Director David Murphy advises that the latest forecast is gaining confidence for a fall severe weather event later this week as a cold front pushes through the state.

At this time, weather models are signaling this will be one of the stronger systems we’ve seen in a while. Murphy said although instability is limited, there should be enough shear and forcing to produce isolated strong to severe thunderstorms. Murphy sees the main concerns will be winds greater than 60 MPH and possible tornadoes. Given the environment, the possibility of seeing some embedded rotations within a line of storms is increasing. We could see rainfall amounts reach 1.5 to 2 inches.

At this time the main threat is expected from 10 AM to 10 PM on Thursday. The activity will move into / develop over northwest Georgia, then move south and east across the state through Thursday.

As for Halloween events, Murphy says they are not expecting any severe weather Wednesday night.
