DAHLONEGA – Megan Sabol shot a 3-under 69 to sit in a tie for the tournament lead as the University of North Georgia women’s golf team fired a 296 in the opening round of the LeeAnn Noble Memorial Monday at Achasta Golf Club. UNG’s team score, as well as Sabol’s score, is the second-best 18-hole score in program history.

After opening the round with bogey, Sabol finished the day with four birdies and 13 pars, birdieing three holes on the back nine. Her score of 69 is one shot off the tournament record for a single round.

The Nighthawks sit in second place, two shots behind No. 14 Lee after 18 holes. Columbus State is in third, followed by UNC Pembroke and West Georgia to round out the top five.

North Georgia also has Miranda Rich (+3, t11), Alexis Whitney (+4, t17) and Karson Stone (+4, t17) in the top 20, while Carson Roberts (+5, t21) is just outside of the top 20.

The Nighthawks will tee off on holes 1-4 tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. as part of a shotgun start.
