Robert Tanner Powers, Jr., age 86 of Baldwin, passed away Wednesday, December
16, 2015.
Born in Hall County on April 22, 1929, he was a son of the late Robert, Sr. and Ida
Whitener Powers. Mr. Powers owned and operated Old Plain View Service Station for
many years prior to working with Mt. Airy Wood Preserving. He was a member of
Hillside Baptist Church and enjoyed yard selling and flea marketing in Mountain City for
many years.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest and
sisters, Alma and Barbara.
Surviving are wife of 64 years, Sophie Clower Powers of Baldwin; son and daughter-in-
law, Rick and Peggy Powers of Lakemont; daughter, Grace Cheryl Mobley of Baldwin;
grandchildren, Casey Powers (Tina) of Demorest and Christopher House of Baldwin;
great grandchildren, Lauren, Corey and Cassie Powers; brothers, Jack and Howard;
sisters, Pat, Evelyn and JoAnn; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are 2 pm Friday, December 18, 2015, at the Chapel of McGahee-
Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Larry Free officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem
Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service on Friday.
