With two wins Monday, the No. 4 University of North Georgia softball team finished off the sweep through the Captain D’s Surf ‘n Turf Classic at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.
GAME 1 – UNG 7, WU 0
North Georgia got on the board in the third inning on a Kaylee Womack RBI single. Olivia Sinquefield added two more runs in the fourth inning on a double down the line in left to put the Nighthawks up, 3-0. The freshman doubled again in the sixth to score Cheyanne Mosteller to get UNG up by four.
The Nighthawks scored the final three runs in the seventh inning, the first coming on a four-pitch walk to Lexi Duncanwith the bases loaded. Moments later, Kristen Adkins knocked home the final two runs on a single to left center to bring the game to its final.
Abbie Crawford pitched six scoreless innings and gave up just three hits and two walks. She struck out five Bulldogs along the way.
GAME 2 – UNG 5, UWF 1
West Florida struck first, using four hits to plate a run in the top half of the first, but Katie Collins answered that run with a two-run blast to center field to give UNG the 2-1 lead.
The Nighthawks didn’t stop there, scoring three more runs in the fifth inning which was capped off by a Shelby Hammontree triple that scored Womack for the game’s final run.
Kylee Smith allowed just two hits after the first inning, totaling six across her seven innings of work. She struck out seven Argos in the game.
– Olivia Sinquefield finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBI at the plate.
– North Georgia is 22-3 in the Captain D’s Classic since 2015.
The Nighthawks will open PBC play Thursday when they travel to UNC Pembroke. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m.
