DAHLONEGA – With a sweep of Columbus State Wednesday night, the No. 4 University of North Georgia softball team clinched at least a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship for the sixth consecutive year.
GAME 1 – UNG 3, CSU 0 Kaylyn Anthony brought home the game’s final run the next plate appearance with a sacrifice fly to bring the game to its final score. Kylee Smith (22-2) threw a one-hitter, striking out nine Cougars along the way. GAME 2 – UNG 5, CSU 1 After a Cougar sacrifice fly cut the lead in half in the fourth, the Nighthawks got the run right back by scoring on a wild pitch. UNG scored the final two runs of the game in the sixth on a Hammontree triple and a wild pitch. Smith (23-2) earned the win again, striking out seven more Cougars while scattering three hits throughout the complete game. NOTES – Hammontree and Collins each went 2-for-5 in the twinbill to lead the Nighthawks at the plate. NEXT UP |
