DAHLONEGA – After the conclusion of regular season play Sunday, the No. 4 University of North Georgia softball team has been announced as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference tournament to be played at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium next weekend.

This will be the second consecutive year the UNG has hosted the PBC tournament at The Hill.
The eight-team, single-elimination tournament will begin with four quarterfinal games on Friday and conclude on Saturday with two semifinals and the championship game. The tournament can be extended into Sunday if necessary due to weather.

North Georgia will be the No. 1 seed for the sixth year in a row after winning their sixth-straight PBC regular-season championship earlier this week. The Nighthawks will also be in search of their sixth straight PBC Tournament title and ninth in the past 11 years. UNG is 39-11 overall entering tournament play, 16-4 in PBC contests and have been nationally-ranked in the top five for eight straight weeks, including No. 1 on March 20.

The Nighthawks will battle No. 8 seed UNC Pembroke Friday at 4 p.m. The Braves return to the PBC Tournament after making their last appearance in 2013. UNCP secured the spot by picking up seven wins in six conference doubleheaders, including victories against Flagler, Georgia Southwestern and Francis Marion.

Play Friday begins at 11 a.m. with No. 7 Georgia Southwestern taking on No. 2 Columbus State, followed by No. 6 Francis Marion battling No. 3 Young Harris at 1:30 p.m. After UNG plays at 4 p.m., No. 5 Georgia College will take on No. 4 Flagler at 6:30 p.m.
