DAHLONEGA – The No. 3 University of North Georgia softball pitching staff struck out 27 Jaguars over the course of Sunday’s doubleheader as the Nighthawks earned two PBC wins over Augusta.

GAME 1 – UNG 5, AU 0
North Georgia wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, using back-to-back singles from Olivia Sinquefield and Hobby Gregory to push a run across in the first inning. The Nighthawks got a RBI single from Kaylee Womack in the third to double the lead.

Lexi Duncan scored a run in the fourth inning for UNG, singling to right field and coming around to score on a Jaguar fielding error to make the score 3-0. Kaylyn Anthony knocked home the game’s final two runs on a RBI double in the fifth inning.

Kylee Smith (18-1) struck out 14 batters in the game, including eight of the first nine Jags to step to the plate.

GAME 2 – UNG 9, AU 1 (6 inn.)
The Nighthawks struck first again in the first inning, putting up four runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run blast by Duncan, her first collegiate homer. Adella Carver kept the scoring going in the fourth inning with a RBI single to extend the lead to five.

After Augusta hit a solo homer in the fifth, Marley Stowers got the run back in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI double before UNG ended the game in the sixth with three runs in the sixth.

Abbie Crawford (8-2) struck out 11 batters over five innings of work to earn the win.

NOTES
– Anthony finished the day 4-for-7 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored.

– North Georgia improves to 9-1 on the year in league play, claiming the top spot in the standings solo.

The Nighthawks will be off until April 6 when they host Georgia Southwestern. First pitch is set for noon.
