LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (March 5, 2019) – After losing game one by a small margin (6-5), the No. 20 Truett McConnell University softball team bounced back with a win over No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett College (5-4).

The Lady Bears are now 13-5 on the year while the Grizzlies are 15-5.

GAME ONE (5-6)

After a scoreless two innings, the Grizzlies got on the scoreboard first with four runs in the bottom of the third (4-0) and two more in the bottom of the fourth (6-0). However, the Lady Bears rallied late in the sixth and seventh. Two runs came in the sixth for TMU after a walk and a single up the middle by Jaden Morrison(2-6). In addition, three more runs came in the seventh after a defensive error, a sacrifice fly and a single to right field but it wasn’t enough as Georgia Gwinnett took game one by a hair (5-6).

LEADERS

Macey Dunaway went 2-for-3 while Kaitlynn Johnson went 2-for-4 while Dunaway tallied two RBI’s.

Bethany Hyde was handed the loss after throwing 3.1 innings. Freshman Sydney Blackmon relieved Hyde on the mound.

GAME TWO (5-4)

The Lady Bears got up on the scoreboard first this time in the fourth inning. Two more defensive errors sent Morrison, Johnson and Sara Sullivan across home plate to put TMU at a three run advantage (3-0). The Grizzlies responded with three runs of their own in the fifth (3-3) but freshman Briley Lawson‘s two-run dinger over the right field fence put TMU back out front (5-3). A single through the second base hole enabled another GGC run (5-4) but sophomore Karley Hobbs backed up by strong defense sealed the deal.

LEADERS

Hobbs recorded another stellar complete game. Hobbs allowed five hits, walked three and struck out four.

Lawson led the way going 3-for-4 while Morrison went 2-for-4 and Brie Levy went 2-for-5. Levy tallied 2 RBI’s alongside Lawson.

The Lady Bears begin Appalachian Athletic Conference play on the road at St. Andrews University on Saturday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m.
