(CLEVELAND) – The No. 18 Truett McConnell University baseball team dropped game three (5-4) to lose the three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series against Montreat College on Monday at the TMU Baseball Complex. The Bears (26-15, 17-6 AAC) previously split the opening doubleheader.

PLAY BY PLAY
The Cavaliers were able to push across three runs in the top of the first inning to get out to an early lead thanks to a two-run homerun (0-3). The Bears went on to load the bases with nobody out, however, TMU was unable to push across any runs in the bottom frame.

Montreat scored two more runs in the top of the third inning (0-5) and the Bears were held scoreless until the sixth. Senior Patrick Overstreet led off the sixth inning with a hit by pitch and freshman John Michael McRaefollowed with a single to left. Calob Rowland lined a single to right field to score McRae for the Bears first run of the game (1-5).

After a scoreless seventh, the Bears climbed back in the bottom of the eighth. Senior Austin Bishop led off with a double over the left fielder’s head and then junior Josh Johnston was hit by a pitch. Overstreet came up next and hit a single to left field to drive home Bishop (2-5). After a Rowland walk to load the bases, freshman Connor Bearden lined a single up the middle to score two more to cut the lead to one (4-5).

Sophomore Cason Brown started the game on the mound and went 7.0 innings giving up five earned runs. Junior Evan Bensch pitched the final 2.0 innings, giving up two hits while allowing zero runs.

LEADERS
Three Bears had multiple hit games as Bishop went 2-for-4 with a 2B and one run scored and Overstreet went 2-for-3 with two HBP and one RBI while Rowland was 2-for-3 with a 2B and an RBI of his own. Bearden led the Bears with two RBI’s.
