YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Despite trailing after the first quarter, the No. 14 University of North Georgia women’s basketball team dominated Emmanuel, 74-42, Friday night in the opening game of the Peach Belt Conference / Conference Carolinas Challenge at Young Harris.

The Lions held UNG quiet in the first quarter and led 14-13 after the first horn, but the Nighthawks responded in a big way, outscoring Emmanuel. 61-28, in the final three quarters.

UNG was led by Julianne Sutton’s 13 points, while Tamera Thorpe and Vanessa Agrusa each contributed 11 points. The Lions were led by former North Georgia player Lochlain Corliss.

NOTES
– North Georgia has not lost a season opener since the 2006-07 season when they fell to North Dakota, 77-68.

– The Nighthawks missed just 10 total shots in the second half, going 17-for-26 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free throw line.

– Lees-McRae defeated Young Harris, 59-55, in the second game of the challenge.
