(KINGSPORT, Tenn.) – The No. 11 Truett McConnell University softball team suffered defeat against Brenau University (7-1) in the second round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday at the Brickyard Ball Fields. Last time they met, TMU shutout the Golden Tigers twice in the regular season on the road (3-0, 5-0).

The Golden Tigers immediately got up on the scoreboard in the first inning (0-1). While the Lady Bears were held scoreless in the bottom half, Brenau pushed across two more runs in the second (0-3). After a scoreless third and fourth the Golden Tigers put up three more runs in the top of the fifth (0-6) and one more in the top of the sixth (0-7).

TMU went on to rally in the bottom of the sixth to avoid the shutout. Macey Dunaway’s single to right-center field scored Kathrine Kozlowski (1-7) and two more Lady Bears were left on base. The Lady Bears held the Golden Tigers scoreless in the top of the seventh and went on to get two more on base in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to capitalize.

LEADERS

Sara Sullivan led the way going 2-for-4 while Brie LevyAlicia Price and Dunaway added a hit apiece.

The back-to-back pitcher of the year, Karley Hobbs, was handed her first loss of her sophomore campaign after allowing 10 hits, three earned runs and striking out two. Junior Bethany Hyde relieved Hobbs for the final two innings allowing two hits and striking out two.
