UPDATE – A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR WHITE COUNTY UNTIL 2am SUNDAY.

Local News – An email from David J. Nadler, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, read this afternoon, that After getting a chance to look at a few things, they wanted to provide an update on the weather for this afternoon through tonight.

Nadler wrote, first off, questions and uncertainty remain regarding re-development later this afternoon into the evening but the bottom line is should any storms develop, conditions will be favorable for there to be a few strong to severe storms once again later today into tonight.

Although earlier morning storms definitely stabilized the atmosphere and we remain stable across much of north/central GA as of 1 PM, the daytime heating should gradually erode the stable layer thus making for a greater chance for more storms sometime later today into this evening.  Helping to de-stabilize the atmosphere, is energy from a deep upper level trough of low pressure that is expected to cross the area later today and tonight, according to the email.

Nadler stated, the primary threats with the possible storms include, isolated damaging winds in excess of  60 MPH, but more widespread winds of 30-50 MPH could still do some damage. Possibility of hail up to 1 inch with locally heavy which could cause minor flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas. As with any severe storm, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes are possible.

Locations that may see greatest risk for storms North GA into East-central GA (mainly along and east of I-75 and north of I-16)

These storms could begin to develop anytime after 4-5 PM, with a few storms potentially lasting through the night.
