ORLANDO – Kicking off their Spring Break, the University of North Georgia men’s tennis team comfortably put away Northwood University. The match was held at the USTA national facility, and proved an easy day out for the Nighthawks.

Playing the match to clinch, No. 1 and No. 2 doubles secured the first point of the day for UNG, with Niklas Zielen and Jess Jones winning the decisive match, 6-3. Zach Waldow and Kevin Candido also won by the same scoreline.

Singles became a quick affair for the Nighthawks; Jess Jones and Ryan Gaskin led the team with quick straight set wins. Gaskin finished first at No. 3 singles, coming through, 6-1, 6-2, and Jones swiftly followed, 6-1, 6-1. Timothy Kiehl then clinched the match at No. 6 singles; his first of the season. After falling behind early, Kiehl rallied to take a tight first set, 7-5, and went on to win the second setm 6-4.

UNG return to the courts on Tuesday, where they will battle Texas-Tyler at the National Campus once again. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
