(Cleveland)- White County firefighters with Automatic Aid from the City of Cleveland, responded to a chimney fire Thursday morning  at  112 Moonlight Way in the southern part of the county.

Fire Department spokeswoman Ana Newberry said when the first unit arrived on scene they were advised there was a chimney fire that had already been extinguished.   Firefighters checked for extensions; none were found.

Newberry said, the homeowners  were advised to have the chimney cleaned by a professional prior to next use.  No injuries were reported.

According to Newberry Creosote is a flammable and corrosive substance that can build up on the walls of your fireplace and chimney. Creosote is formed when unburned wood particles, fly ash and other volatile gases combine as they exit the chimney.  You should clean your chimney at least once a year AND have it inspected by a certified professional.
