(CLEVELAND)- No. 3 seed Truett McConnell made history this past Friday as they won their first-ever Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament championship, defeating fourth-seeded Union 2-0.
AAC Player of the Year Joao Costa gave Truett McConnell the early advantage as he tallied his 28th goal of the season, making it 1-0 at the half.
Raul Diaz came off the bench and added a second-half tally to secure the 2-0 win for Truett McConnell.
Evan Gaffney posted three saves in recording the shutout win for the Bears.
With the win, Truett McConnell advances to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round this upcoming Saturday at 3 pm against The St. Thomas University in Miami, Fl.
For his efforts, Jao Costa was honored and named the Tournament MVP and AAC Player of the year Saturday during the Homecoming Basketball game along with the rest of the team to congratulate their outstanding season performance.
