(Cleveland)- White County businesses received some relief that the county will not be digging deeper into their business affairs. Monday evening the board of commissioners in a 3-1 vote failed to approve a request from the county tax assessor’s office to have a company conduct a business personal property audit verification.
Right now businesses file an inventory report each year, but no verification of that information is made.
Commissioners Craig Bryant in making a motion to deny the request said, “ it’s no secret how I feel about this.”
Commissioner Lyn Holcomb and Chairman Travis Turner joined Bryant in voting to turn down the request, Commissioner Terry Goodger voted no. Commissioners Edwin Nix was not in attendance.
Chairman Turner said, “ I do recognizes there are concerns that we live in a society that we seem to be over taxing a lot of areas. I understand the boards feeling regarding delving deeper into businesses pockets.”
