(Land Use Draft1-28-15Cleveland)- During a special called meeting  Tuesday the White County Board of Commissioners held a first reading of  a draft of  land use regulations for the county.  During the last couple of years the county has been working on this document, that work included holding three public input meetings  around the county.

Following those meeting  county voters in November gave their approval  to putting those regulations into effect.  Tuesday’s  first reading  set the stage for the implementation of those regulations.  During the first reading  White County Community and Economic Development Director  Tom  O’Bryant  provided a review of the  78 page document.

The regulations are divided into eight use districts:  Agriculture Forest , Residential Single Family, Residential Multi-Family, Seasonal Residential, Community Commercial, Highway Business, Industrial and Planned Development Overlay Districts.

White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner  advised they now want citizens, if they have comments or suggestions, to make those directly to O’Bryant, his email is tobryant@whitecounty.net.  Then on February 19th at 4:30 PM the commissioners will hold a public hearing on the regulations.  The public hearing will be held in the commission meeting room in the county administration building off the Helen Highway in Cleveland.

A copy of the Land Use document  is available online at the county website  www.whitecounty.net   or a hard copy is available at the county planning office  located in the Mauney Building on the Helen Highway, Suite 220.

After the  February 19th  public  hearing  the commissioners can adopt the regulation  then or wait until a later date to give their approval.
