Hope Drive to Temporarily Close

The Georgia Department of Transportation says Hope Drive in Cleveland will be closed for about 15 days, beginning today (07/28), as the grade of the road is raised by 12 feet.  The contractor is required to complete the work and reopen the road by August 11th. Renovations at Unicoi and Amicalola

State officials say the renovations of two state lodges in the Northeast Georgia mountains – Unicoi and Amicalola – are expected to be completed by Fall. Unicoi Lodge, which opened in 1973, is now undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation to refurbish the main building, which includes 100 guestrooms. A White County man was transported by helicopter to Grady Hospital in Atlanta  Thursday afternoon after receiving burns over approximately 40 percent of his body. Unemployment Figures Released

The Georgia Department of Labor announced  Thursday  that the preliminary unemployment rate for White County in Junes was 6.9 percent.  That is up from the  6.8 percent revised May rate.  Labor Department figures from June show in White County the labor force was 13,618, of those 12,673 were employed while 945 were unemployed.
