Buford L. Thompson, age 86, Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.
Mr. Thompson was born on October 13, 1928 in White County, Georgia to the late Claud and Pauline Bentley Thompson. He was of the Baptist Faith, and was a veteran of The United States Army Air Corp. He retired from Clarkesville Mill with 40 years of service, and again from Lumite Corporation. Mr. Thompson was an avid golfer, and fisherman; he also served as a volunteer fireman and rescue diver for many years. He also co-managed Peidmont Golf Course after his retirement. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Anderson Thompson; sisters, Joanna Green; Carrie Lou Rogers, Jane Thompson; and brother, Estes Thompson.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Danny Smart, of Alto; Connie and Larry Hood, of Alto; Susan and Gil Chapman, of Peachtree City; son, David Thompson, of Cornelia; sister, Mary Nelson, of Missouri; brother, Chester Thompson, of Cleveland; grandchildren and spouses, Paul and Kristie Smart; Blake and Caroline Smart; Bill and Rochelle Hood; Nicole and Kyle Lovell; grandchild, Catherine Chapman; 4 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews;
Graveside Services are scheduled for 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Terry Rice officiating.
The family will receive friends at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, September 25, 2015.
