(MONTREAT, N.C.) — The Brenau track and field team used its superior depth to win the 2019 Appalachian Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships Saturday, April 27.

The championship marks a stunning sixth team title in the eight-year history of the program, including winning five straight Southern States Athletic Conference titles from 2013-2017.

The squad amassed 228 points to easily outpace second place Columbia College (South Carolina) by 87 points. Tennessee Wesleyan College (123 points), Milligan College (Tennessee)  (88) and Union College (Kentucky) (86 points) round out the top five finishers at the championships.

Brenau’s depth was evident as the team posted 30 individual top eight finishes and three top eight relays at the championships.

The Golden Tigers captured individual titles in five events as Kanyisola Anjorin outpaced the competition in the heptathlon (3481 points), Ayana Daniels won the pole vault with a height of 3.10m, Shatrice Dixon won both the triple jump (11.23m) and the long jump (5.48m) and Tamia Francis captured top honors in the 200 meters (24.83). Francis also added a fifth place finish in the high jump (1.46m).

The 4×100 relay team of Shakera Thompson, Jasmine Reece, Myia Neal and Francis placed second in 47.0, while the 4×800 meter relay team of Mikayla Dunn, Maya Dunn, Zoie Gardner and Nia Griffin placed third with a time of 10:27.48.

Other top performers from the second day included:

Gloria Clark, third place, heptathlon, 2886 points;

Ayana Daniels, third place, 400 hurdles, 1:07.82;

Maya Dunn, fourth place, 400 hurdles, 1:11.95;

Zoie Gardner, seventh place, 3000 steeplechase, 13:07.27;

Haley Gill, third place, pole vault, 2.70m;

Nia Griffin, fifth place, 800 meters, 2:23.35;

Chloe Ireland, third place, 5000 race walk 39:07.24;

Cassidi Jones, fifth place, pole vault, 2.30m;

TyLeeah Maddox, second place, high jump, 1.61m;

Tatyiana McClendon, third place, triple jump, 10.57m;

Jasmine Reese, eighth place, 200 meters, 25.88;

Shakera Thompson, sixth place, 200 meters, 25.67.
