10-6-18

WALESKA, Ga. (Oct. 5, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University men’s soccer team traveled to Reinhardt University on Friday evening for another Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup. Though the Bears forced overtime regulation after an even second half, the Eagles managed to come out on top three minutes into the second overtime period (1-0). The Bears dropped to 5-5, 2-5 AAC on the year while the No. 14 Eagles improved to 10-0-1, 7-0 AAC.

The first 45 minutes of play consisted of Reinhardt trying to force the action taking 10 shots in comparison to TMU’s five. However, the Bears’ defense was resilient and Evan Gaffney made three saves to keep the Eagles scoreless. The second half saw a tightly contested game as both teams took six shots but TMU earned two more corner kicks than the Eagles (5-3). After the teams were unable to resolve a scoreless tie through the first two periods, the first overtime began with just two chances from the Bears at the net in comparison to Reinhardt’s six.

Nonetheless, another 10 minutes of overtime was forced but it was only a matter of three minutes before Reinhardt found the back of the net for Friday night’s lone goal.

Joao Costa led TMU with six shots, Daniel Holt followed with four and Victor Clemente added two. Gaffney compiled a total of seven saves.

Up next, the Bears will be at Bob Jones University on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 6:00 p.m., before returning to the TMU Soccer Complex to host Milligan College on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 3:00 p.m.
